A stay with friends at a cabin in Sibiu county turned into a nightmare for a young woman from Mediaș and her husband. They discovered video cameras hidden in socket adapters, strategically oriented towards the bed and the shower cabin. The culprit was not the owner, but one of the people who organized the gathering, who destroyed the evidence before the police arrived at the scene.

What should have been a relaxing weekend at a cabin in the heart of Transylvania, together with a group of friends, turned for Felicia Kopan and her husband into a nightmare experience. It all started when the man noticed, in their room, a socket adapter that he thought was suspicious. Upon careful analysis, he discovered that the device was hiding a video camera capable of recording Full HD video and audio, directed directly towards the bed they were sleeping in. Later, they found a second identical device in the bathroom, pointing to the shower cabin, according to reports from the local press.

The culprit: not the host, but a friend

Initially, the suspicion of the two spouses naturally turned to the owner of the cabin. But the truth would be much more disturbing. The one who had purchased and installed the spy equipment was one of the friends he had come on vacation with. Caught in the act, the man tried to get rid of the evidence: he got his hands on the memory cards and tore them up before the images could be checked. “From the first floor to the ground floor, where we wanted to see what images are on those cameras, the cards ended up broken! In the hand of this individual,” said Felicia Kopan.

Investigation and penalties

The two spouses filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Avrig Court, and the damaged devices and cards were handed over to the authorities. In Romania, Romanian law restricts covert recording in private spaces; the precise legal classification and potential penalty depend on the circumstances. Such an act can be punished with up to five years in prison.

Conclusion

The case in Avrig is a harsh warning about how easily spying devices can be hidden in mundane objects such as sockets, USB chargers or smoke detectors. And the fact that the culprit was a friend turns this story into a sad lesson about trust and intimacy. The authorities continue the investigation, but for Felicia and her husband, the vacation ended with a wound that will be difficult to heal.
